Theater has the power to enlighten, uplift and educate. It is with great pride that I aim to teach through positive critique while instilling a firm foundation of theater practices and techniques. Having experience in all elements of theater, I find myself prepared to passionately instruct primarily in directing, acting and choreography with knowledgeable insight into design, writing, research, behind the scenes, tech, and front of house.

Children's Theater, I believe, is meant to provide the foundations of performance art education, enriching the student's ability to speak publicly with confidence in addition to strengthening a team-player attitude. Unlike sports, where two teams compete to win a game, theater collaborates with multiple departments of talents; actors, writers, musicians, make-up artists, designers, costumers, technicians, back stage crew, front of house members, publicists, historians, etc., in efforts to bring forth a united production. The camaraderie achieved through successful theater is an invaluable lessons in team work, communication and courtesy which can be applied in many other aspects of life. Theater is a merger of artistic talents becoming one, providing a place to be inclusive of a variety of talents. It is my goal to highlight the individual talents of the student so as to create a cohesive piece of theater.

Often times, beginning students are reluctant to express themselves openly due to fears of rejection, stage fright or other personal inhibitions. It is a comfort sharing with them what non-theatrical benefits theater can provide. I do my best to incorporate a sense of community and bigger picture to all assignments to ensure the value of the learning is being understood. I have found Bible based and moral-lesson based theatrical studies to be a wonderful learning tool as theater brings stories to life in ways that other art forms cannot.

Creating a safe place for students to explore and create is vital to both a healthy learning process, rehearsal and performance structure. Students who feel safe will perform with greater ease than students who do not. I believe in creating a joyful and nurturing atmosphere so as to promote depth of learning and heightened creativity.

The power of positivism is a standard I expect and uphold. I believe in collaboration, student leadership opportunities, and problem solving. Staying within a budget is of utmost importance to me and can often steer projects towards unexpected, innovative resolutions. As a teacher, I focus to instill good habits in my students so they are prepared for future events, theatrical and otherwise, requiring focus, stamina, strength, intellect and analysis.

Theater is a place to share stories, and I believe everyone has a story to share.
